Memories of Florence, Sunset on the Arno River

A painting I made after studying abroad in Florence, Italy, for a semester. When I came back all I could think about for a while was how much I missed everything. From the food, to the history, all the way to the walks over the Arno. Admiring the sunset while crossing the river with the intention of getting pizza from our favorite restaurant.

The photographs below are all photoshopped images I made during my semester abroad in Florence. During my time there I was heavily inspired by the sculpted works shown throughout the city.

What Do You Think Happened?

My goal with this painting was to expand on the concept of perspective. How not everyone sees the same thing, even when they look at the same image. While painting this, I did my best to put a lack of specific effort into a lot of details. I didn’t want my viewers to know what I was thinking while painting it, but rather, have them put their own meaning behind my piece.

I’m honored to say that this painting was recently featured on the cover page of the 30th edition of the PTK Nota Bene Magazine.

Girl In The Mirror- Painting Copy from Pinterest

Another commission made for my friend. She was drawn to this painting she saw on Pinterest and asked me to paint it for her, which I did.

Unfortunately, the original artist is currently unknown.

2024

Below are a handful of live drawings I made during my second semester studying Fine Arts at FIT in the spring of 2024.

All of the drawings are done with charcoal, one of my favorite drawing mediums.

This particular drawing was done with the intention of defining the figure with patters and shapes.

You may notice how I even continued my drawing on the drawing board itself, this was something I did often in class. I did my best to add paper other times, but this happens to be a good example of “Anna needed more paper”.

Shaped Figure 1

This drawing was made on the same day as Shaped Figure 1, as well as with the same intention. With this charcoal drawing, I feel more accomplished with how I defined the lights and shadows of the model.

I also personally find this drawing very captivating to look at. I had a lot of fun making it too.

Shaped Figure 2

This is one of a few test drawings I made for another project I had been assigned. This was a very small, quick drawing, but just as enjoyable as my larger works.

Untitled Small Figure Drawing

Both of the portraits you see where done within about 10 minutes or less time. Portraiture done with charcoal is something I personally love to do. I had a lot of fun in class during this portion of the semester where I would create portraits of the models.
